Governor Gianforte calls on students to join national history competition

MONTANA — Governor Greg Gianforte is urging local students to participate in the Presidential 1776 Award, a history competition offering a unique opportunity for young history enthusiasts.

"The U.S. Department of Education launched the presidential 1776 award competition, that invites students to test their knowledge of our nation's founding principals and civic traditions. Today, I'm calling on all Montana students in grades 9 through 12 to sign up for presidential-1776-award-dot-org to complete the challenge," said Governor Gianforte.

The competition is structured in three stages. It begins with an online multiple-choice test, followed by in-person regional semi-finals, and culminates in a national finals event in Washington, D.C.

The winner of the national finals will receive a $150,000 scholarship. The second-place winner will earn $75,000 and the third-place winner will take home $25,000.

Students interested in participating are encouraged to register for the online test period, which runs from February 22 to February 28.
