High school-aged male dies of suspected suicide on Montana State campus

A high school-aged man died after jumping from the MSU Parking Garage roof in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to a Bozeman Police Department report issued Sunday.

When asked for comment by the MSU Exponent on Wednesday, Michael Becker, interim vice president of university communications, said that just before 1 a.m. Saturday officers from the MSU Police Department responded to a report of an individual in distress who had reportedly jumped from the top of the parking garage.

“Upon arrival, officers located a high school-aged male, and despite immediate response efforts, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Becker said. “The incident is being investigated as a suicide.”

Becker added that MSU responders, the Bozeman Police and Fire Departments, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office coroner and chaplain, and an EMS service were on scene.

The specific cause of death and identity of the deceased will be released by the Gallatin County coroner, Becker said.
