Highway 21 bridge work near Augusta to impact drivers until June 2026

AUGUSTA, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) announced that a section of Montana Highway 21, from mile markers 0 to 1, will be closed starting March 2 through the end of June 2026.

The closure is necessary for bridge replacements at Elk Creek, Elk Creek Overflow and Hogan Slough.

During construction, full closures will be in place at each bridge location, and drivers will be unable to pass through the work zones.

Residents between the bridge closures and Emergency Medical Services will have access from one direction only.

The designated detour will take drivers via Montana Highway 200 and U.S. Highway 287 through Bowman's Corner. Drivers should plan for extra travel time and adhere to posted detour signs.

After the bridge work, paving and shoulder improvements are scheduled from late June to early July, with two-way traffic maintained during this phase.
