Jefferson City Fire Department warns after two vehicle incidents

JEFFERSON CITY, Mont. — The Jefferson City Volunteer Fire Department posted on Facebook that crews responded to two separate vehicle-related calls within a 24-hour period and are reminding the public to check vehicle chargers and call 911 after a crash if they are able to do so safely.

The first incident involved a vehicle fire. According to the department, the fire may have been caused by a faulty charger or an overloaded electrical setup. The fire was contained to the vehicle and did not spread to nearby grass, structures, or a natural gas tank.

Following that call, the department urged people to inspect their vehicle chargers for damage and ensure they are being used properly.

The second response came around 14:45 for a vehicle that had gone off an embankment near I-15 at mile marker 175. No driver was located at the scene.

“If you are in an accident, do us a solid and call 911 to say that you are okay,” the department said.

The department added that incidents like this are challenging for firefighters because crews must pause operations to search the area. It also noted that finding crashed vehicles without drivers present has been happening more frequently in the region.
