Letter to the Editor: Meet Miss Heart of the Valley
Hello, everyone! My name is Sophia Young, and I am honored to introduce myself as Miss Heart of the Valley 2027, proudly representing both the Gallatin Valley and Madison Valley!
I am currently a sophomore at MSU studying Animal Science with an emphasis in Livestock Management on the Pre-Veterinary track. Outside of the classroom, I am proud to be a sister of Chi Omega, a member of the Pre-Veterinary Club and the Vice President of Collegiate Future Farmers of America (FFA). Being involved on campus has given me countless opportunities to grow as a leader while building meaningful connections with people who share my passions for agriculture, service, and community.
At the heart of everything I do is service. I believe that one of the greatest ways we can make an impact is by being willing to show up, lend a helping hand and invest in the people and communities around us. Serving others is something I genuinely love and becoming Miss Heart of the Valley has given me an even greater opportunity to serve the community I am so proud to call home.
As a titleholder, I strive to embody the four points of the Miss America crown, Style, Success, Scholarship and Service, along with the honorary fifth point, Sisterhood. To me, these points are much more than words associated with a crown. They are values I strive to carry into every part of my life. I believe style is about confidently being yourself, success is about setting goals and working toward them, scholarship is about continually learning and growing, and service is about using what you have to make a difference for others. Sisterhood reminds me of the importance of lifting others up, creating meaningful connections, and making sure no one feels like they have to walk through life alone.
My community service initiative is “Feed Your Future: Growing Tomorrow’s Agricultural Leaders.” This initiative is especially meaningful to me because I believe programs such as FFA and 4-H have the power to create the leaders of tomorrow. I was an FFA member for eight years, and I have personally experienced the impact these organizations can have on young people. Through agriculture, students gain much more than industry knowledge; they develop confidence, leadership skills, responsibility and a strong connection to their communities.
This fall, I will also be receiving my American FFA Degree, the highest degree of achievement that an FFA member can earn. Reaching this milestone is something I am incredibly proud of. It represents years of hard work, dedication, and the support of the people who have encouraged me along the way.
Although I am from Florida, Montana has become my home in so many ways. I was born right here in Bozeman and returned to attend Montana State University, coming back to Bozeman led me to find a community. A community, friendships, opportunities to grow and a place that has given me a sense of belonging. I am incredibly grateful to call the Gallatin and Madison Valleys home, and I cannot wait to continue giving back to the community that has given me so much. Montana has been my home, and I know it will continue to be my home for years to come.
During the summer months, I will have the opportunity to compete for Miss Montana. As Miss Heart of the Valley, I am a local titleholder within the Miss Montana Scholarship Organization, a preliminary organization to the Miss America Scholarship Organization. This experience allows me to combine my love for agriculture, leadership, community service and education while representing the communities that have supported me.
I am incredibly grateful for the community that surrounds me, and I am equally thankful for the sponsors who have helped me get to where I am today and continue to believe in my goals. Their support makes it possible for me to pursue these opportunities and serve my community in a meaningful way. I am always looking to make new connections and welcome opportunities to partner with sponsors, organizations, and community members who share a passion for investing in the future of Montana.
If you would like to connect with me, I would love to hear from you! You can find me on social media at @missheartofthevalleymt or reach me by email at missheartofthevalleymt@gmail.com.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve as Miss Heart of the Valley 2027. I look forward to spending this year serving, learning, growing, and building relationships throughout the Gallatin and Madison Valleys. Thank you for welcoming me into this community, supporting me on this journey, and allowing me the opportunity to give back to the place I am so proud to call home.
As always, Go Cats Go!
