Letter to the editor: Repair is possible
The Trump administration and Trump-supporting Republicans have imposed a seemingly endless set of changes to federal agencies, governmental function and public policy. All informed citizens understand the problems created by unscientific public health policies, political purges of civil servants, defunding of regulatory agencies, attacks on higher education, xenophobic immigration enforcement, and suspension of programs to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Do not despair!
It may take years, but repair is possible. While these changes occurred quickly, they can be reversed with sufficient time and effort. We can, again, build a nation that values the health and general welfare of citizens, offers appropriate sanctuary for immigrants and asylum-seekers, treasures the support of allied nations, and advances personal freedom.
John M. Lott,
