Letter to the editor: Who is responsible for 110 dead Iranian children?

According to the New York Times, preliminary analysis shows that on Feb. 28 the U.S. struck the Shajarah Tayyebeh Elementary School in Minab, Iran with a Tomahawk missile. They report that “at least 175 people, most of them children” died. The BBC reports the strike killed 110 children. CBS News says the children were from 7 to 12 years old.

Donald Trump, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio seem most directly culpable. They decided to use our tax dollars to pay for and release that Tomahawk missile.

But what about closer to home? Votehhub.com tells us that in 2025 Senators Daines and Sheehy — who represent us! — voted with Trump 100% of the time. Both senators voted to confirm Hegseth, with Sheehy showing Montanans how seriously he takes his oversight obligation by asking Hegseth, “How many pushups can you do?”

In their last elections, around 55% of Montanans voted for Mr. Daines; around 53% for Mr. Sheehy.
