Local Missoula stars dance to raise money for Arts Missoula

Missoula, Mont. — Rehearsals were in full swing at Show Tyme Academy as eight local stars prepared for Dancing with the Arts Missoula Stars this weekend.

The event was set to bring dance and live music to the stage while raising money for Arts Missoula and local artists. Organizers said the proceeds were meant to help keep Missoula's arts scene accessible and active.

Participants said the event also gave them a way to support the community through the arts.

“I feel pretty strongly that the arts in general, change lives, um, and bring out things in people that they don't even realize they maybe have,” said Christine Kowalchik. “And I love how many people are so passionate about the arts. whether it's dancing, drawing, singing and so to be able to support that and support what makes Missoula, Missoula, I mean, it's just a unique opportunity, to support the town that I love,” said Levi Janacaro.

Others involved said the night was also about celebrating community and enjoying the experience.

“I love community arts and all the programs that they offer for this incredible artistic community. And the fact that we get to do dance, to help bring in funds for such things is amazing,” said Katie Thompson. “And that’s kind of representative of Arts Missoula. Right. And what Arts Missoula does for our community and gives back. And that's been a really fun part for me, is to be involved in that way and connect with my direct community,” said Amelia Regalado.

Heather Adams, executive director of Arts Missoula, said the fundraiser supported both the organization and the broader community it serves.

“It's been really wonderful to have a fundraiser that supports Arta Missoula but at the same time we're supporting the community that, um, we get to uplift and elevate,” Adams said.

Dancing with the Arts Missoula Stars was scheduled for Saturday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wilma. Tickets are available online through Dancing With Arts Missoula Stars, Arts Missoula at The Wilma, Missoula MT, Galas & Fundraisers
