Main Stope Gallery exhibits work by local artist Rachael Marjamaa

The Main Stope Gallery at 14 S. Dakota St., in Butte will have a special opening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday for the exhibit of local artist Rachael Marjamaa.

Marjamaa has as her inspiration the Finnish art of ryijy, which is a fiber tapestry art form dating back to the Viking age.

The Butte native works in a variety of mediums including ceramics, oil painting, and straw work, but at the heart of each composition is a passion for fiber art. Her paintings in this show are inspired by the ancestral fiber tapestries.

Light refreshments and drinks, along with the music of Cindi Shaw, are planned for the Friday opening.

In addition to the opening celebration, Ryijy will continue to be available for viewing throughout April during the gallery’s regular hours of 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesdays through Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
