Man arrested in Columbia Falls SWAT standoff for assault

COLUMBIA FALLS, Mont. - A man was arrested on Saturday after a SWAT standoff and alleged assault involving a sword and a gun, according to a social media post from the Columbia Falls Police Department.

CFPD said they received a call at around noon on Saturday reporting a "disturbance with a weapon" at a home on 3rd Avenue West.

Two victims were able to escape from the home uninjured, according to CFPD, but the 54-year-old male suspect would not surrender or leave the house.

"The suspect eventually emerged from the home and confronted SWAT Team members," CFPD said. 

The man was ultimately taken into custody by police use of "less lethal munitions and a canine." He was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. 

The man was booked in the Flathead County Detention Center for two counts of assault with a weapon and resisting arrest.
