March 1 marks end of winter debris burning restrictions in Jefferson County

March 1 will mark the end of the Department of Environmental Quality’s winter debris burning restrictions period in Jefferson County, but anyone burning a fire over four feet in size will still need a county burn permit.

People with permits need to activate them on each day they are burning. Permits can be obtained at https://app.egovmt.com/burnpermit or at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Boulder.

People should monitor weather conditions and avoid burning on windy days or ahead of upcoming wind events. Space around the burn must also be cleared of flammable material, people must have a way to extinguish the fire, and they must not leave burns unattended, the county fire warden said.

The Jefferson County fire warden and fire chiefs monitor weather and fuel conditions daily and can close burning in the county if unfavorable conditions exist.

Debris burning will close July 1 and won’t re-open until the fall. People can contact the county fire warden with questions at (406) 225-4035.
