Missoula County election judge training begins for upcoming elections

MISSOULA, Mont. – Missoula County is gearing up for a busy election season, with community volunteers starting their training to become election judges. These individuals are essential to ensuring elections run smoothly.

Bradley Seaman, Missoula County Elections Administrator, highlighted the success of their recruitment efforts.

"We started recruitment and training at the beginning of January, and it's been incredibly successful. We've had over 650 people sign up to serve as an election judge," Seaman said.

The county requires more than 600 election judges to staff approximately 20 polling locations. These volunteers help check in voters, manage ballots and ensure polling places operate efficiently on election day. The training encompasses current election laws, polling place procedures, ballot security and vote counting processes.

Officials emphasize the importance of having both new and returning judges to maintain consistency. Experienced volunteers play a crucial role in guiding newcomers.

Vickie Reynolds, a prospective election judge, expressed her motivation for volunteering.

"I always voted, but I think I probably voted not really knowing the candidates. And I just I do want to be a part of the community and just be a part of the process," Reynolds said.

Missoula County officials note that many election judges return annually, aiding in training new volunteers and ensuring a seamless process. While most training sessions are full, those interested can still contact the elections office to check for available spots.
