Montana snow plow crashes prompt MDT road safety warning

Montana — Montana's Department of Transportation urged drivers to give snow plows more space after six separate plows were involved in crashes over the weekend.

One of those plow trucks was totaled, and the agency said the damage will take time to repair. MDT asked the public to stay patient while that work happens.

Isaiah Ruiz looked into the crashes after speaking with MDT earlier in the day. The agency said the recent crashes caused considerable damage.

Steve Felix with MDT said drivers need to be careful around working plows.

"Give us plenty of room to work. Um don't crowd us. Um, we're trying to make the road safe for everybody," said Steve Felix.

Felix also stressed the need to check weather forecasts, allow extra travel time and stay patient with plow drivers during winter and spring weather conditions.

"We just ask people to. Aware winter driving conditions you're like to likely to encounter NTT snowplows on NTT maintained routes um. Throughout the state, we have more than 25000 lane miles we maintain, so we have a lot going on when we have a big storm or even a small storm, um, localized areas we'll see plows, so," said Steve Felix.
