Montana warns of scam texts impersonating Motor Vehicle Division
Scam Alert

HELENA – The Montana Department of Justice’s Office of Consumer Protection (OCP) has issued a warning about fraudulent text messages from scammers pretending to be the Montana Motor Vehicle Division (MVD).

Scammers use urgent messages with fake deadlines, threatening increased fees and vehicle registration suspension to pressure recipients into providing personal information or money.

The MVD notes that the agency does not send texts requesting money for unpaid tickets or toll fees.

Montanans are advised to verify sources, avoid clicking links from unknown texts and report suspicious messages.

To confirm notices, contact the MVD directly at (406) 444-3933 or visit their website.
