On this day 50, 25 years ago: No hopes for fixing Pinckney Street, Stevi subdivision under scrutiny

March 2, 1976:

On this date 50 years ago, Hamilton's street improvement plans seemed to be "going down the drain" when an estimate of $120,000 (about $680,000 in today's money) was deemed to be "too much" by Loyal Williamson, chairman of the street committee. Meanwhile, Stevensville had its own problems with surface water and drainage issues.

In other front-page news, Rev. Lewis Harro of Victor was recovering from serious injuries sustained in a car crash, and slick road conditions caused several crashes.

March 2, 2001:

On this date in 2001, the Ravalli County Planning board tabled a decision on a proposed four-lot subdivision near the Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge. Among other concerns, neighbors worried about the impacts on traffic and on wildlife and wildlife habitat.

In other news, the attorney for accused murderer Mark Edwin Niemeir filed to dismiss the case. Niemeir had had a physical altercation with his neighbor over Niemeir's dogs, and the neighbor died following the altercation, but the state medical examiner found the cause of death to be a heart attack.
