MISSOULA, Mont. — The University of Montana (UM) recently welcomed pack mules to campus as part of an annual event that also gave students a closer look at summer and field-based learning opportunities.

The U.S. Forest Service helps facilitate the event each year.

Along with giving students time with the mules, the event let UM showcase courses tied to outdoor learning and summer study.

One of those classes was "Wilderness Policy and Packing" in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, which is home to many working mules.

Applications are now open for those summer courses.
