Ralph Loren Clements, also known as "R.L." by many and the self-proclaimed Mayor of Silver Star, Montana, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026. He was 94 years old.
Ralph was born in Colorado to Richard and Bertha Clements. He proudly served 21 years in the United States Navy, including 18½ years at sea. Rising to the rank of Chief Gunner's Mate, he served aboard destroyers, heavy cruisers, and aircraft carriers. Ralph served during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War, reflecting his dedication, discipline, and unwavering sense of duty to his country.
On October 6, 1969, Ralph married Patricia Smith, and together they built a blended family of six children, John (Traci) Clements, George (Patty Zwicker) Clements, Steve (Rebecca) Clements, Gwen (Craig) Pozega, Sterling (Jessica) Clements, Glen (Becky) Clements; and 20 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family was central to his life, and he took great pride in each of them.
After retiring from the military, Ralph began a second career as an operator and leadman at the Golden Sunlight Mine, where he was well respected for his strong work ethic and was often praised for never missing a scheduled shift - a testament to his reliability and commitment.
Ralph was the last living of his nine siblings and came from a family with a strong tradition of military service, with most of his siblings and many of his children also serving in the armed forces.
Ralph spent his final days at the Southwest Montana Veterans Home in Butte, Montana, surrounded by compassionate caregivers. His family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff for the love, dignity, and exceptional care they showed him.
Ralph loved his family, his friends, and his community deeply. Known for his humor, strong opinions, and deep roots in the Silver Star and Whitehall communities, he leaves behind a legacy of service, dedication, stories, and friendships. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
