Sacajawea Elementary School parent arrested and charged with intimidation

According to court documents, home surveillance footage reportedly showed the father of a student at Sacajawea Elementary School making comments about shooting the school's principal, teachers, and students on February 11.

On March 17, the man called the school's principal asking if there were any protection orders in place preventing him from visiting his son at the school. The principal advised that there was no court paperwork preventing his visitation.

The student's mother called the school resource officer later that morning to express concern about her child's father, who lived in Laurel, visiting the school. She then sent the surveillance footage to the officer, who shared it with the principal.

According to court documents, the principal attempted to contact the father and tell him not to visit the school at that time, but was unable to reach him.

The school entered shelter-in-place status, and the father was placed into custody and transported to the Great Falls Police Department for an interview when he arrived at the school. When asked about the surveillance footage, the man said he "didn't say what principal" he wanted to shoot.

The father denied owning any firearms, and advised that he is not legally permitted to own one due to a firearm conviction in 2001.

In 2004, he was convicted of felony theft and possession of a stolen firearm, and according to court documents had several probation violations and misdemeanor convictions in the years following.

GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The parent of a student at Sacajawea Elementary School was arrested on Tuesday and charged with felony intimidation.

According to a social media post from the Great Falls Police Department, School Resource Officer Detective Kinsey was made aware of a parent allegedly making threats against school staff and students "in the recent past" on Tuesday morning.

"School staff attempted to instruct the parent to stay away from the school but those communication efforts went unacknowledged," GFPD said.

The school was placed into shelter-in-place status.

At around 12:00 p.m., the parent drove onto school property and was arrested by GFPD detectives.

The individual was remanded into custody at the Cascade County Adult Detention Center.
