Skateboard Alliance Of Montana To Host Winter Skate Night Events Through March 19th

BOZEMAN, Mont. – Skateboarding is making waves in Montana as the Skateboard Alliance of Montana kicks off its winter skate night events, starting on February 19th.  

Will Norris, a volunteer for the winter skate night, shared his thoughts on the evolution of skateboarding events.  

"Growing up skateboarding in the 90s and early 2000’s, it was a very different thing. It was very rare anywhere to see a community event around skateboarding," Norris said. "So, it warms my heart as an old skater to see like, so much community backing behind an event like this."  

The Skateboard Alliance of Montana, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to building community through skateboarding.  

Jason Singler, the President of the Skateboarding Alliance of Montana explained their mission.  

"We wanted to provide a safe environment for skateboarders of all ages to come out and have fun and support each other and feel included and give them something healthy to do throughout the winter months," Singler said.  

As the winter months make outdoor skateboarding challenging, these winter skate nights have become a popular alternative.  

Norris highlighted the welcoming atmosphere, stating, "It’s a very inclusive vibe, it’s all ages, they even let an old guy like me come hang out and skate. That’s part of the fun; the community builds each other up, so, great vibe."  

These events feature various activities catering to all skill levels, including beginner-friendly classes, free skate sessions, and best trick contests.  

The events also foster community spirit through a partnership with the HRDC.  

The private non-profit provided a statement to Nonstop Local saying quote, “For many young people, especially those experiencing instability or stress, having a safe place to belong can make a big difference. Events like this help to build connection and trust while supporting our youth programs, including the Blueprint Continuum. We’re proud to see this space, which was once home to our Warming Center, continue to be used in ways that support youth and strengthen our community” (HRDC).  

Looking ahead, Singler mentioned future plans, including a proposal for a city-wide skatepark plan. The Skateboard Alliance of Montana is actively working with Bozeman Parks and Rec on plans for a 20-25 thousand square foot district skatepark.  

The Skateboard Alliance of Montana will host weekly skate nights through February and March, concluding on March 19.
