Southbound I-15 traffic congested north of Helena due to fire

UPDATE: March 20, 2026 at 7:06 p.m.

According to Lewis and Clark County Emergency Management, I-15 has reopened with traffic being slowly escorted between the Sieben and Gates of the Mountains exits.

Officials advised any drivers travelling on I-15 to expect delays as the fire remains in close proximity to the roadway.

SIEBEN, Mont. – Lewis and Clark County Emergency Management officials have ordered drivers not to travel on southbound Interstate 15, north of Helena, towards Sieben Flats, as a fire is burning next to the roadway.

Authorities stated that the fire has severely decreased visibility on the roadway and emergency responders are currently working on the scene.

Southbound traffic is being diverted onto Chevallier Drive, however, any drivers planning to travel through the area should find alternative routes that avoid I-15.
