SWAT standoff in Missoula neighborhood results in arrest

MISSOULA, Mont. — An arrest was made following an hours-long standoff with police in a Missoula neighborhood today.

According to a press release from the Missoula Police Department (MPD), patrol officers responded to the 100 block of Camelot Court after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance.

During the initial investigation, MPD said they learned that a partner or family member assault involving strangulation had been reported.

Officers attempted to contact the suspect inside the residence, but he refused to exit.

The Missoula Police Department Crisis Negotiation Team responded and attempted to make contact with the individual in an effort to gain voluntary compliance.

Officers obtained a search warrant signed by a judge and dispersed a chemical agent into the residence, MPD said.

The individual then exited the residence and was taken into custody. There were no injuries reported as a result of the police response.

MPD said the individual is a juvenile. He is being charged with Partner/Family Member Assault and Obstructing a Peace Officer. He was remanded to the Missoula County Detention Facility.
