Wolf Point police remove dog after third reported bite

Wolf Point, Mont. — The Wolf Point Police Department said officers removed a dog from a Wolf Point home after a third documented bite case led to a court-approved search warrant.

The case started April 10, 2026, when Wolf Point Animal Control responded to a reported dog bite of a construction worker at a neighboring property who was bitten on the forearm after a leashed dog reached beyond the owner's property line, police said in a release.

Chief Cambridge said Animal Control told the owner the dog had to be quarantined for rabies observation under Montana law. He said the owner refused that option.

Police said an officer, another officer and Animal Control then went to the home and offered a self-quarantine plan requiring a veterinary exam, keeping the dog inside the home and using a shortened leash for bathroom breaks so the dog could not leave the property.

Chief Cambridge said the owner later went to the Wolf Point Police Department and again refused to follow the rabies quarantine requirement. He also said another agency later went to the home and saw the leash still extended beyond the property boundary.

On Monday, April 13, a judge approved a search warrant to remove the dog, according to police. Officers served that warrant without incident and safely took the dog from the property.

Chief Cambridge said the owner could have voluntarily surrendered the dog at any point during the four-day process for a standard 10-day rabies observation hold or agreed to self-quarantine.

"While we understand that individuals often vent their frustrations on social media, we would like to remind the public that all of our police interactions are recorded on body-worn cameras. All incidents involving this case were no exception and all actions taken in this case complied with Montana State law and departmental policy," Chief Cambridge added.
