SafetyFestMT returns, offering free workplace safety courses in Helena

HELENA, Mont. — Employers and workers across the state of Montana will converge at the Great Northern Hotel in Helena, April 13-15, for the annual SafetyFestMT, a free three-day safety training event.

The training, focused on workplace and roadway safety, strives to reach industries including agriculture, construction, small business and industrial operations, Montana Department of Labor and Industry said in a release.

SafetyFestMT has provided safety training in Montana for more than 15 years. This year, the department expanded spring course options and added virtual classes in the fall to better reach small employers and rural communities, the department said.

Sarah Swanson, commissioner of Labor and Industry, said the broader schedule was meant to help more workers get access to training.

“Safety is more than a policy. It is a culture that protects us at work, while traveling and throughout our daily lives,” said Sarah Swanson. “By expanding SafetyFestMT course offerings, we’re making sure more Montana workers and employers can access the training they need to go home safe every night.”

Montana Department of Transportation Director Chris Dorrington connected the training to safety on the road for workers who drive as part of their day.

“Buckling up, staying focused on the road and driving at safe speeds are all critical for protecting yourself and others,” said Chris Dorrington. “For many Montana workers, the drive to and from the job is one of the highest-risk parts of the day, which is why trainings like SafetyFestMT are so important.”
